Green Investment Bank Commits £35m to North Wales Energy from Waste Plant

Green Investment Bank has committed £35 million of senior debt to the construction of a new energy-waste-plant in North Wales.

The facility will cost a total of £180m and is also backed by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Siemens Bank and Natixis, with Barclays providing an equity bridging loan.

Exhibition Press Release

A new energy recovery facility (ERF) is being proposed at Buttington Quarry to provide heat and electricity to homes and local businesses.  Powered by residual, non-recyclable waste, the plant would secure the future of the former brickworks site and quarry for long term employment use and contribute to environmental targets.


Residents are being invited to come to the event taking place on Wednesday 7th December to learn more about the proposed development and to have their say on what the facility will look like and to hear their views.

Welsh: Broad Energy (Wales) Limited will be consulting with the community about the proposed ERF. We are seeking the views of both individuals and organisations within local and neighbouring communities. We will consider feedback before the plans are finalised ahead of any planning application being submitted to Powys County Council.
